It is a large, long-tailed piha with a short, heavy-based bill that is slightly decurved. The Dusky Piha superficially resembles the Screaming Piha (Lipaugus vociferans) of the Amazonian lowlands, but Dusky occurs in subtropical and temperate forests of the Andes, and is also substantially larger, being the largest member of its genus.
During the Global Big Day 2019, while we were looking for an owl, this not so small friend showed to us. It’s a very quiet bird once you find it and it’s also a lonely one. Without a doubt this was one of the best shoots of the day.
